The Queen visits HMS Ocean

24th March 2015

On March 20th, the Queen visited Devonport dockyard in Plymouth for the celebration of rededication of HMS Ocean. The helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship has just undergone a £65 million refit, with the accommodation equipment being supplied by Varivane. The ship is now returning to operational service, and will become the Royal Navy Fleet Flagship in June 2015.

HMS Ocean was launched in 1995, and Varivane were responsible for the manufacture and installation of accommodation furniture. The ship has a flexible role, with the ability to deliver Royal Marines into either combat or humanitarian situations, by helicopter or landing craft. HMS Ocean has been very much in demand since entering service, most recently as part of Operational Ellamy, the UK contribution to enforcing a no-fly zone in Libya in order to protect the civilian population. The ship then provided security on the Thames during the 2012 London Olympics, prior to entering refit.

Varivane are proud to be associated with HMS Ocean, and we wish all of the crew every success in the future.
