The first phase of the UK's Naval Support Facility in Manama, Bahrain, HMS Juffair, was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on 10th November 2016. The Mina Sawan support facility will enable Royal Navy vessels stationed in the Gulf to undergo maintenance and replenishment without having to return to the UK. It affirms the Royal Navy's commitment to operations throughout the Gulf region.

Two ships from the Royal Navy, Type 45 Destroyer HMS Duncan and Type 23 Frigate HMS Richmond, have been watching the movements of a group of Russian warships passing close to UK waters as they head from the Norwegian Sea towards the English Channel. The Russian "taskforce" is heading for deployment in the Mediterranean and consists of the flagship Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, built in 1985, and its support ships. The Royal Navy landing ship RFA Mounts Bay arrived in Gibraltar on the 11th April for pre-planned routine maintenance work. Performing this work in Gibraltar means that the ship does not have to return to the UK and can resume operations within 4 weeks. The ship was deployed in January 2016 to support the international response to the migrant crisis. The Royal Navy has deployed the ship alongside two Border Force cutters to join the NATO mission in the Aegean Sea that aims to reduce the flow of migrants from Turkey to Europe. We are pleased to announce that our well and water pump has been built by the Africa Trust, and is now providing up to 10,000 litres of water per day. The pump is located in Manicaland, a north eastern province of Zimbabwe.Typically around 300 people benefit from each pump that is installed, this varying from day to day, season to season, and pump to pump.The water is used for drinking and domestic consumption, for washing, watering livestock, and for irrigating vegetable gardens.
